A few more preschool photos

Here are some pics of Zaki baking at school with friends, and in the "morning meeting" (Z is wearing green tie die and sitting next to his teacher Amanda).

Reading at school

The teachers at Zaki's preschool documented one of our morning "transition rituals" as they call it in the biz. Zaki loves this book about fast trains (e.g. TGV and Bullet).

This is the Gruffalo...

Zaki dictated the following story to his babysitter Cassidy last week, and asked her to write it down for us. We are, in turn, sharing it with you. I present it without exegesis, leaving all interpretation to the reader:

This is the Gruffalo (pause)...

The Gruffalo flew out of the kingdom and across the village. There was a ding! and all the lights went out. The keeper of the castle said, "Dont' worry! It's just Trunk-o the elephant." There was also a pirate ship spraying water at the witch ... "Arrrgh Matey!". There was a sprayer on the boat that went up and sprayed water in the dark hole. The water went in, and the firemen came. There was a fire at the castle! The witch got hurt. She was a bad witch. She was a mean witch, and her name was Beep-Beep-Boop. She got away and flew across the valley to another castle. Then there was some trolls and they said, "Little pigs, little pigs, let me in!".

Bright-eyed boy!

Look at Zaki's beautiful preschool headshot! This was taken by Amanda, Zaki's new teacher when he moves up to the preschool in August, and will be up on the wall in the new classroom.

Birthday Party!

The cake was made by our friend Jenny -- it is a Richard Scarry busytown firehouse (Zakitown, it actually said!) made of rice crispy treats. There is also a fire truck complete with two fire-fighting pigs and a fire-Loki-dog (specific request from Zaki. Oh yes, and it was a swim party, so all the kids here are in their bathing suits! Zaki is the one in the firehat!

Birthday photos

For the next few days we will have photos of Zaki's b-day revels! Here he is at home on the actual day, opening gifts from mommy and daddy and eating birthday pancakes. We were most suprised to find out that Zaki was a bit more interested in his feather duster (a present he requrested in India after watching street vendors selling them) than in his shiny new red bike!
